MAN’S SHOT GLASS

IMG_2564.jpg

Every man needs one of these

The concept for this item was born from necessity, or, a friend that can drink pretty much anyone under the table. I was wanting to create a series of Shot Glasses with different names engraved and for differing liquids. But, then comes the call for a bigger item that would be more made for the larger hand, when I say larger, I mean big. So the idea came that if the shot glass shape was in the bottom of a bigger vessel. The design was there, time to start this project. The wood species was Sapele I think.

The inside & Outside was fun

Shaping the outside was done to intentionally incorporate the ridges that would sit between the fingers to aid the comfort of holding the item. The rim was shaped to allow for continuous drinking until empty in one movement. The inside was shaped so that the very bottom of the piece was a larger sized shot glass and further up to the lip is just about half a pints worth. The idea came from the substantial amount of Jagermeister and Red Bull consumed at Biker meets, it was a lot, it was really a lot.

The base and finish

The base was used to hold the unit to the lathe, after this and removal, the piece is turned round and then finished off with a small sanding head. The sticker is applied and then the finish is put on the outside and the inside, the finishing technique was the usual sanding with grits up to 400, then sanding sealer on the outside, the inside was sealed and finished with a Beeswax and Mineral Oil mix, to allow it to be re-treated and seals the inside safely for drinks to go in, the outside was the same, twice.
